We know traveling with infants can be a challenge. One of the reasons is the amount of stuff you need to bring with you - strollers, car seats, pack-n-plays, toys, etc. It can turn into quite a lot of luggage. But there are options to consider instead of bringing all of this from home. Sometimes you can find a condo that includes many of these things. The condo we will be staying at has a pack-n-play for the baby to sleep in, a booster chair, and sand toys. So we won't have to bother with bringing them from home. Another option is to pre-arrange to rent these things to use when you get to Maui. A couple of places to rent from are Baby's Away and Wild Wheels Wentals.
Tips for making traveling with infants easier are welcome!

Another good option is Babies Travel Lite.

You can order anything from diapers, formula, sunscreen, beach toys, etc., and they'll deliver them to your vacation destination. You do end up paying a convenience fee for it, but it sure beats carrying an entire extra suitcase full of wipes, diapers, toys and the likes when you're not sure when and where you'll find a store on vacation to purchase said items. It also gives you a chance to just settle in and relax after a long flight rather than rushing out because your baby has gone through many more diapers than you expected on the flight1
A couple of other things for the flight itself:
- always pack twice as many diapers as you think you'll need in your carry-on. Babies can surprise you. And in addition to a change of clothes for baby in the diaper bag, don't forget to throw in an extra shirt for yourself (I reiterate: babies can surprise you).
- try to arrange to sit in the bulkhead seats, so you have a little more room for Jr. & all your gear. You won't be allowed to sit in an emergency exit row.
- don't forget to pack infant meds: decongestants and baby tylenol and baby gravol can make a long flight with a sick baby easier to handle.
- make sure to have a pacifier or drink for baby to be sucking back for take-off/landing to ease the pressure on their ears.
- pre-boarding makes things much easier when you're traveling with a bunch of stuff for baby, but you may not want to get baby onto the plane until the last minute considering you're in for a long flight. One thing that works very well is to have one parent pre-board with all the carry-on stuff and get everything stowed away, then the other parent stays behind and comes on with baby at the last minute. It makes settling in with baby a lot smoother. Strollers can be checked right before you board the plane, and they'll be waiting there for you when you disembark.
Thanks for the great tips Chrissy!
